Pork manufacturer Danish Crown has announced it has started exports to Nepal.
The firm has set up an export agreement with meat wholesaler Sanu Khagdi to make Danish Crown’s pork loins with bones, hams and spare bellies available across Nepal.
“This has been a really exciting job initiating the first Danish pork meat export to Nepal and now we are naturally excited to learn how our products are received by the consumers,” Danish Crown export manager Peter Frederiksen said.
Transportation has been a challenge since Nepal does not have any ports. The 20ft container was sent to Kolkata in India and transported by lorry to Kathmandu on a two-week trip.
“Initially these are relatively small-sized quantities but time will tell how large they may grow into in future. At any rate we are prepared when content of the first container has been sold in Nepal shops,” said Frederiksen.
