Russia’s consumer watchdog has filed a case against Nestle over allegations the company broke regulations covering a genetically-modified ingredient.
Rospotrebnadzor, the Russian agency that covers consumer protection, has claimed an oatmeal product sold under Nestle’s Bystrov brand contained genetically modified papaya, an ingredient not registered in the country.

The watchdog also alleged Nestle knew the product contained the ingredient but did not inform the agency.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, manufacturers must report such matters to the agency within ten days.
Officials at Nestle in Russia and at the company’s global HQ in Switzerland had not returned requests for comment at the time of writing.
Nestle has been reported to have told Russian news agency TASS the company does not use genetically-modified ingredients in its Bystrov oatmeal.
