Nestlé has signed a long-term contract with US bakery business Dawn Foods for the manufacture of muffins and cookies carrying the Swiss giant’s product branding.

The tie-up with Nestlé will see Dawn Foods create a range of sweet bakery products across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa (EMENA) using ingredients made by the Swiss group, starting with muffins filled with milk chocolate and topped with KitKat.

Dawn Foods said in a statement the co-branding partnership with Nestlé Professional, the foodservice arm of the world’s largest food maker, will service “bakery channels” and quick-service restaurants across the region. 

Vincent de Clippele, the fead of Nestlé Professional for EMENA, said: “We are delighted about this partnership with Dawn Foods, which will allow us to bring to our consumers new innovative experiences with our confectionery brands. We selected Dawn Foods as our EMENA partner because of the high quality of their bakery products, their capability to convey our brands experiences to the consumers, and their leading position in the sweet bakery industry.”

Dawn Foods, based in Jackson, Michigan, is both a manufacturer and ingredients supplier to food companies and the out-of-home sector, as well as retail and artisanal bakeries. In July, the company sold is frozen bakery division in North America to Rise Baking Company, a move it said would enable the business to “continue to leverage our insights to develop ground-breaking bakery ingredient innovations and invest in our ingredient plants and digital future”.  

Steven Verweij, president of Dawn Foods’ operations in Europe, as well as Africa, the Middle East and Asia Pacific, added: “The muffin made with KitKat is the result of Dawn Foods’ market leadership in American pastry and the strengths of Nestlé’s confectionery brands, which gives the unique KitKat product taste experience.
