Ahold told just-food yesterday (26 February) that while it views Denmark as a good geographical fit for the group, it does not have any imminent plans to expand in the market.
Local reports have suggested that Ahold is considering entering the Danish market through the acquisition of AP Moeller-Maersk’s Dansk Supermarked chain.
“The Danish market would be a good geographical fit,” Ahold’s Carro Bamforth told just-food. “We said in our retail review last November that we will continue to look at all opportunities to improve shareholder and stakeholder value, including acquisitions, divestments and other cooperative ventures.”
However, Bamforth concluded: “Ahold does not have any imminent plans to enter the Danish market.”
