Dutch retailer Ahold is preparing to open its first Albert Heijn click-and-collect pick-up point in the Netherlands.

“Customers order their groceries via www.ah.nl and we will collect the groceries for them so that after that it’s just a matter of picking them up at a convenient moment,” a spokesperson for the retailer told just-food today (15 October).

The spokesperson said the move would enable Ahold to build on its existing online services.

“For over ten years we’ve been offering the possibility to order groceries and have them delivered at home. The possibility to pick up the groceries at a pick up point is new,” the spokesperson said.

Ahold has previously indicated its growth strategy will focus on driving online growth. The firm completed the acquisition of non-food online retailer bol.com in February.
