Named “AH to go”, the convenience stores were distributed across The Netherlands over a year ago.

Albert Heijn, a unit of Dutch retail giant Ahold, said the company had concluded that although the results of the test period were better than in the past, they remained lower than expected. Both companies are to continue with their separate plans regarding convenience stores.

The service stations involved will be converted back into the Esso network before the end of this year
