Dutch dairy Campina expects consumption of organic dairy sales to rise to 5% by 2005.

The dairy group said that currently organic dairy produce accounts for 3% of all dairy sales. Organic cheese costs between 25% and 40% more than conventional cheese, while organic milk carries a premium of some 25%.
Campina subsidiary Ecomel is reported by the Financiele Telegraaf to be planning to produce 35m kg of organic milk this year, a 10% increase year-on-year over 2001. Campina enjoys a 40% share of the organic market in the Netherlands (Source: Platform Biologica, an organisation of organic farmers) and posts annual sales worth €4bn (US$3.9bn).
