Dutch retailer Laurus has said it plans to scrap its Konmar brand, ending its bid to rival Ahold’s Albert Heijn stores in the premium sector.

Laurus, which is 40% owned by French retail giant Casino, said its remaining 79 Konmar stores will be remodelled under the Super de Boer or Edah brands. Laurus will start the conversion in September and expects to have redone all the stores by July 2004. The 50 bigger Konmar Super stores won’t be transformed, Laurus said.

The retailer also said that it would restructure its finance and administration department, focusing on two locations instead of the current four, leading to the loss of 80 jobs, reported Reuters.
