Dutch agriculture minister Laurens-Jan Brinkhorst revealed plans yesterday to introduce a meat-labelling scheme that would describe the living conditions of the animals prior to slaughter.

Brinkhorst explained that such labels would help consumers make better-informed choices in which product to buy.

According to Het Financieele Dagblad newspaper, the scheme will be fully implemented within five years.
