The company said today (2 April) that its baby food and clinical nutrition units will look after product development. Numico’s research facilities will report directly to the company’s CEO, Ajai Puri.

Earlier today, Numico reported rising sales and earnings during the first quarter of the year. Profits rose 18% to EUR74m (US$100.6m) on the back of a 9.6% increase in revenue to EUR674m.

However, Numico, which is Europe’s largest infant-nutrition company, saw sales growth from its baby food brands slow.

Puri said the company’s baby food sales were lapping a “record” first quarter in 2006. “The baby food division grew by 8% in the first quarter of 2007, against record-high sales growth comparables of the first quarter of 2006,” Puri said. “Eastern Europe continues to perform well, as does Asia-Pacific. The underlying trend for Western Europe is encouraging.”
