Dutch retail chain Schuitema, part of Dutch retail giant Ahold, has reported a small increase in first-half net profit, despite strong competition.

The company posted net profit of €21.3m (US$25.7m) for the first six months of 2004, compared to €21.1m in the year-ago period, reported AFX.
Schuitema also said its main supermarket chain C1000 had increased its market share to 15.7% in the period, compared to 15.5% a year earlier. Turnover at the chain rose 1.8% to €2.08bn.
