Spar International has opened 18 Eurospar stores in Denmark in the first stage of a two-step plan to bolster its presence in the country.
The global symbol group has 531 stores in Denmark across four different formats and said Eurospar gave Danish shoppers a “competitive alternative to the larger traditional supermarkets” in the country.

Spar said the new Eurospar stores would challenge competitor discounters on price, with a “strong” discount range offering over 500 own-label products.
“Danes shop more and more with their local independent retailer and the rapid expansion of Eurospar stores demonstrates that Spar is winning market share,” said Spar International MD Dr. Gordon Campbell.
Spar plans to open a further 20 Eurospar stores in Denmark at the beginning of 2011.
