Global symbol group Spar International is to enter Vietnam after signing a deal with local wholesaler Phui Thai Group.
Spar plans to open 26 stores in Vietnam over the next two years – making the emerging market the 34th country in which the retailer has stores.

The Netherlands-based group announced the plan as it unveiled a 5.5% rise in global in sales in 2009.
Sales reached EUR28.5bn (US$34.85bn), which MD Dr. Gordon Campbell dubbed an “excellent result in such a difficult environment”.
“Our fastest growing format is the Spar hypermarket,” Campbell said. “We now have 274 hypermarkets worldwide which account for 15% of retail sales.
