Dutch supermarket group Sperwer has posted turnover of €250m (US$293.5m) for the first quarter of 2003, compared to €188m in the year ago period.

The increase in turnover was helped by the acquisition of around 70 Spar supermarkets from Dutch competitor Laurus in 2002, reported the Dutch News Digest.


Sperwer, which operates supermarkets under the Plus, Garantmarkt, Spar and Gastrovino banners, posted net profit of €8m for 2002, on turnover of €1bn.
