Vion CFO Kenaad Tewarie has quit the Dutch meat group after just six months at the firm.

The company announced Tewarie’s departure last week (19 February) and said that it has begun its search for a replacement.

Vion did not provide a reason for Tewarie’s exit but Dutch reports have suggested a division in Vion’s top leadership over the firm’s strategic direction.

In 2013, Vion launched a strategic drive to improve profitability. The company divided its food and ingredients businesses and refocused its struggling food unit on the pork and beef markets in Germany and the Netherlands as well as “select” international markets. The company, which also withdrew from the UK last year, has focused on lowering its cost base.

Vion appointed a new chief executive, Michiel Herkemij, in December last year. At the time, the company said Herkemij was tasked with plotting a “new strategic course” and continuing to develop the structure of Vion’s food business.
