Dutch food group Wessanen said today (3 December) that CFO Frans Eelkman Rooda will step down from his role next year.

The company said the decision had been reached after “mutual consultation” between Eelkman Rooda and the board.

Wessanen said the move came amid its plans to focus on the organic food sector.

“During the last two years, Wessanen has gone through an accelerated transformation process and made significant steps in the past year with the roadmap to reshape the company,” the group said.

“Major steps in this process have been completed and, going forward, Wessanen will focus on the organic food market in Europe. In light of this, the company and Frans Eelkman Rooda jointly have concluded that a change in financial leadership in 2011 would be appropriate.”

Eelkman Rooda, who joined Wessanen in 2008 from Dutch pharmaceuticals group OPG, will leave by the So Good and Kallo maker by the end of May.

Wessanen is focusing on its organic-food businesses in Europe and is continuing to sell its interests in the US after saying last year that it wanted to quit the market.

The group plans to sell US speciality and organic food unit Panos by the end of the year and offload soft-drink business American Beverage Corp. next year.
