The new cheese, which will initially be distributed on the domestic and Australian markets, will be manufactured at the company’s Hautapu plant near Cambridge.
Organics manager Rick Carmont explained to IRN News that Fonterra will use milk from 48 farms in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty that can meet organic standards within the next year or two.
Carmont added that Fonterra is making the move into organics after extensive research, and hopes to extend its range of organic products.
