Biotech giant Monsanto is hoping to sell GE cottonseed oil to food producers in New Zealand and Australia.

Cottonseed oil can be used for cooking, and there are many applications for cotton linter, the fibres attached to seeds. These are often used by manufacturers of ice cream and salad dressings.

The multinational company has already asked the Australia New Zealand Food Authority (ANZFA) to change its current code so that the genetically engineered oil can be used.
