Nim's Fruit Crisps, the UK snack firm, hopes to tap into demand for processed British fruit snacks through its GBP350,000 (US$540,000) investment in a new production facility in Kent.
The new site has the capacity to process up to one tonne of fruit per day, Nim's founder Nimisha Raja told just-food. The company had previously partnered with a processor in eastern Europe to process its fruit snacks.
Speaking from the Anuga trade show in Cologne today (14 October), Raja revealed the company hopes to grow its business in the UK and in export markets.
In the UK, Raja said the company is in discussions with multiples over listing its brand, as well as potential private-label contracts. "We will do own label at some point," she suggested.
Overseas, the group has secured deals in Europe for branded products. "We already have orders waiting from Europe… There has been interest from China as well as the Far East," Nim continued. "They are interested in UK fruit snacks delivered by a UK brand."
Trade shows will be an important plank of Nim's growth strategy in the near term as the group looks to broaden its distribution, Raja added.
