Norwegian co-operative retailer Coop Norge has confirmed that it plans to cut costs, with the possible closure of unprofitable stores.

“Closing loss-making stores is something we may have to look at,” a spokesperson for the retailer told just-food.

The grocery chain acknowledged that high costs have become a “problem” for the company as consumer spending in the country has dropped.

As a result it may be forced to “trim excess” costs, the spokesperson confirmed.
