New Zealand dairy giant Fonterra is reportedly planning to cut jobs as it pushes ahead with the closure of its Waitoa dairy factory.

The cheese factory, located near the town of Morrinsville, will not open in July when the new season begins, staff were told yesterday (21 April).

According to a report in the Waikato Times, 47 jobs will be lost. Staff will either be transferred to other Fonterra facilities or offered redundancy packages.

Officials at Fonterra could not be reached for immediate comment.
