UK-based organic dairy co-operative OMSCo hopes to kick off exports to China next year.

The co-operative is the first company to receive an export licence from the Chinese authorities under the partnership between UK organic certifier The Soil Association and China’s certification body, the Organic Food Development and Certification Centre of China.

OMSCo MD Richard Hampton has said he is “overjoyed” to have reached this landmark.

A spokesperson for the company told just-food the group hopes to start selling products into China during 2016. “The partnership will allow a roll out of organic dairy products in 2016, and with organic products in high demand in China, OMSCo hopes to be able to announce some further developments in this sector early in the new year,” the spokesperson revealed.

Earlier this month, OMSCo announced a partnership with US organic dairy producer CROPP, which operates under the Organic Valley brand. Announcing the tie-up, OMSCo said it would unlock “international opportunities” as well as providing “domestic flexibility”.
