PepsiCo, the US-based multinational food, snack and beverage corporation, has invested $239m to open what will be its fifth production plant in Poland. The plant is based in Środa Śląska in south-western Poland.

The total area of the chip plant, including office space, warehousing and a sewage treatment plant, is 5.5 hectares (ha), while the adjacent production hall spans around 2.5ha.

Through the plant, PepsiCo is creating 450 new jobs. The plant consists of three technologically advanced and energy-efficient production lines, two of which will produce 12,500 packs of Lay’s potato crisps a day, while the third will produce 30,000 packs of Doritos nachos.

Upon the opening of the plant, Silviu Popovici, president of PepsiCo Europe, said: “Poland is a strategic market with great development potential, where we have been investing for over 30 years. The opening of this new, environmentally sustainable snack food establishment is a milestone for PepsiCo in Europe.”

PepsiCo’s other production plants in Poland are based in Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Tomaszów Mazowiecki, Michrów and Żnin. In 2020, the company opened a business services centre in Kraków. PepsiCo employs more than 4,000 people in Poland and is estimated to be responsible for approximately 33,000 indirect jobs in the country.
