Confectioner Perfetti Van Melle is cutting 49 positions from its Spanish workforce.

The company, which produces Chupa Chups lollypops in Spain, originally announced plans to reduce its Spanish headcount by 57 workers in November. At the time, the company said the cuts were being made for “organisational reasons” to promote competitiveness and profitability.

Following consultations with Spanish union CCOO, the group has reduced the number of redundancies to 49 posts. Redundancies will be made across at its facility in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, as well as Perfetti Van Melle’s Spanish sales workforce, just-food understands.

A spokesperson for the CCOO told just-food the proposal has been backed by the majority of Perfetti’s unionised workers. The CCOO is “satisfied” that the reduction has been “minimised,” the union said.

Perfetti Van Melle did not respond to requests for comment at time of press.
