Perrigo said there had been a number of branded, non-GMO formula products launched in the US in the last year. It pointed to the introduction of over ten products marketed under either Mead Johnson’s Enfamil brand or Abbott Laboratories’ Similac brand. Citing IRI data, Perrigo said sales of non-GMO infant formulas “already exceed US$45m”.

However, the company claimed non-GMO infant formulas “typically cost up to 15% more than conventional formulas”. Perrigo said store-brand non-GMO infant formulas “can save parents more than 45% versus nationally advertised brands”.

John Hendrickson, Perrigo’s CEO, added: “We know that today’s millennial mom is more demanding than ever. Whether she chooses conventional, non-GMO, or organic infant formulas, Perrigo is committed to providing her with a safe, high quality, and nutritious infant formula to meet her baby’s needs for growth and development.”
