Nestle has acquired a clutch of ice-cream assets from Peruvian food processor Alicorp.
The world’s largest food maker has acquired ice-cream production machinery as well as commercial information related to Alicorp’s Lamborgini and Eskimo brands in a deal worth US$16.7m, plus tax. However, Nestle, which leads the Peruvian ice-cream market with its D’onofrio range, did not buy the two Alicorp brands.
Alicorp acquired Lamborghini in 2004, when it absorbed the Peruvian ice-cream producer and distributor Alimentum. Three years later, it acquired Eskimo from the eponymous Ecuadorian firm that later became Alicorp Ecuador.
Reports in Peru said Alicorp has agreed not to actively participate in the ice-cream business for five years as part of the sale. However, Alicorp has not commented on the reports.
