SENASA has provided the EU with the required toxic waste analysis and it is expected that EU approval of poultry imports will be granted in the last quarter of 2006 following the adoption of sanitary legislation in Peru, Oscar Dominguez, SENASA general director, said. Were the Andean Community to harmonise its health regulations with the EU, Peru would not have to harmonise its legislation, and poultry meat exports to the EU would begin in August 2006, local reports said.

Costa Rica will approve the import of poultry meat in the second week of January. Reports in the Peruvian media have suggested that Peru also plans to begin negotiating the export of poultry meat to Southeast Asia, including China, Thailand and Singapore during 2006.
