Due to weak market conditions nationally, the production of Peruvian sweets and sweet snacks declined 15% this year relative to last. Filling the supply gap is a number of foreign sweets manufacturers, including Universal Distribuciones (UNIDIS) of Ecuador. UNIDIS management expects its Peruvian sales to rise by 10% this year, consolidating a 3% share of the Peruvian sweets market by the end of 2000 and creating a sales total of approximately US$1m. The company recently began to supply the industrial market with chocolate coatings. Industrial customers in Peru include Cusco, Comida Sana, and Nabisco Peru.
