The biggest tuna-canning firm to date has been opened in General Santos City, welcomed by an industry anxious to see its prospects within the international arena increase. Philippines Best, a subsidiary of the Rivera family-owned RD Group, will be generating 1,600 new jobs at its plant, currently leased from the RFM tuna canning company.
Philippines Best hopes to purchase the operating facilities after the two-year lease has expired.
President of the company, Rodrigo Rivera Jr, commented that the firm is eager to show that it has the quality standards and capability to compete internationally. The operation is indeed expected to develop into one with major earnings.
The Rivera group already controls several interests in the fishing industry, including a prawn export processing plant and fish canning operations in countries other than The Philippines.
