
Philippines food and drink group San Miguel Corp. has reportedly joined the race to acquire UK-based snack maker United Biscuits.
According to ABS-CBN News, San Miguel has confirmed it submitted a bid for the Jacob’s maker, with CEO Ramon Ang confirming the news in a text message.
Earlier this month, San Miguel told just-food it was “evaluating a bid”. It did not respond to requests for comment on the matter today when approached.
Kellogg, UK firm Burton’s Biscuit Co. and Turkey’s Ulker have been said to be among the companies who have submitted first-round bids for United Biscuits. just-food understands the McVitie’s owner has received takeover offers of over GBP2bn.
In the past Saudi Arabia’s Savola Group and Italy’s Ferrero Group have also been linked to the auction.
