French prepared salad specialist Pierre Martinet is eyeing expansion in Spain, with plans to grow the subsidiary it operates in the country. 

In an interview with just-food, Nurdan Martinet, wife of company founder Pierre Martinet, revealed that the company was considering setting up its own production facilities in Spain in response to growing demand for its products in this market.

“We are very satisfied with the development of our brand in Spain and we are thinking about producing locally. But we have yet to come to a firm decision and therefore at this stage, can’t go into detail on how it might be done nor the time frame,” she said.

The Spanish subsidiary, Martinet Iberica, was established 2007 “becoming one of the pioneers of the marketing of tabbouleh in Spain.”

Today, Pierre Martinet is enjoying a growing presence in Spain’s national and regional supermarket chains for both its own brand and private labels, Mrs Martinet underlined.

Its product range encompasses tabbouleh recipes, crab salad, hummus, smoothies, green tea and gazpachos. Growth is being supported through product development. New products this year include a pasta salad with pesto sauce.

“Consumer trends in the Spanish market fit very nicely with our products to the backdrop of strong growth in the fresh products category,” she added.

Pierre Martinet has a global annual turnover of around EUR140m (US$154.8m) in 2015. It operates six production sites in France.
