“This project emphasises our strategic commitment to grow our business, be a stronger partner for our customers and the communities where we operate, and to provide increased opportunities for our team members,” said Tom Lopez, the president of Plumrose USA. “We are also excited for the opportunity to partner with the state of Missouri and the community of Moberly.”

Sao Paulo-based JBS bought Plumrose USA from European peer Danish Crown in 2017 for $230m. Last year, the Brazilian meat packer put $20m into expanding another Plumrose bacon production facility in Ottumwa, Iowa, to meet what it said was increasing demand for “high-quality” products from foodservice and retail.
