French retailer E. Leclerc has recently revealed plans to invest a further PlZ200m (US$48.4m) in the expansion of its supermarket chain in Poland throughout 2002.

Until now, the company has largely focused on building a chain of nine hypermarkets in the country, but a company representative told local newspaper Puls Biznesu that the focus now would be on smaller retail outlets: “These funds will be spent on the construction of supermarkets of about 2,000 square metres.
“This year we will begin to work on 5 stores of this kind. Annually we are ready to open some 4-5.”
Last year, E Leclerc registered turnover of PlZ1.48bn in its Polish stores.
