French own-brand chocolate producer Groupe Cemoi de Perpignan has bought Polish counterpart Gryf Confectionery Industry Enterprise.


Cemoi, France’s leading producer of chocolate for retailers, already has 11 plants in France and overseas. The acquisition of Gryf, for an undisclosed sum, is the company’s first move into Eastern Europe.


Gryf’s plant in Szczecin specialises in cocoa bean processing and industrial chocolate production The Polish firm has an annual turnover of EUR15m and employs 107 staff.


Of Cemoi’s existing 11 plants, seven are located in France, with one each in Germany, Spain, the UK and the Ivory Coast. 


Family-owned Cemoi has an annual turnover of around EUR500m (US$671.3m).
