French retailer Leclerc has received regulatory approval from Poland’s competition authority to complete its acquisition of 25 Billa Polska stores from Germany’s Rewe.
The Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) said that the deal will not result in a “significant restriction of competition” by “creating or strengthening a dominant position in the market.”
The UOKiK also gave its assent to Leclerc’s proposed acquisition of 35 Presspo outlets from Portuguese retailer Jeronimo Martins.
A spokesperson for Leclerc said that Poland represented an “important market opportunity” for the company to expand.
“We were naturally gratified by the news,” the spokesperson said.
