Tengelmann, which ceded control of its Plus stores in Germany last month, is weighing up the options for its discount business throughout Europe.

Reports in Portugal have linked Jeronimo Martins to the Plus stores in that market, which numbers some 75 outlets.

However, the Portuguese retailer had little to say when contacted by just-food today (10 December). “We have no comment to make on this issue,” a spokesman said.

Jeronimo Martins, which runs supermarkets in Portugal, operates discount stores in Poland but the spokesman declined to comment on whether the company would look to introduce that format into its domestic market.
