However, a spokesperson for the company told just-food today (27 September) that a decision on the next market for the retailer had yet to be finalised. “We do not know which country it will be,” the spokesperson said.

The company, which has operations in Poland, could announce its third market as early as next year, the spokesperson added.
Last week, the company which has a major presence in Poland announced that it was looking to expand its Polish operations by acquiring sites from local rivals. The retailer wants to buy nine shops in Warsaw, Lomianki and Bialystok from retail chain Marcpol.

In addition, Eurocash, the Polish cash-and-carry unit of Jeronimo Martins, informed UOKiK, the Polish competition watchdog that it wishes to acquire 14 companies that are controlled by Lubla-based Emperia Holding.

Poland accounts for 60% of Jeronimo Martins total sales.
