The store, situated in the heart of Old San Juan, was developed by Starbucks and its local joint venture partner Puerto Rico Coffee Partners. The two firms created the Cafe del Caribe company, under an agreement in January of this year, to open and manage Starbucks stores in Puerto Rico.

“We are extremely excited to bring the Starbucks Experience to Puerto Rico,” said Julio Gutierrez, president of Latin America, SCI: “Puerto Rico represents a market that offers tremendous growth opportunities for Starbucks.”

Following the opening of the first Starbucks store, Cafe del Caribe, plans to open another 10 to 15 stores in the next 18 to 24 months. The second Starbucks store is scheduled to open in the San Patricio Plaza shopping centre later this autumn, followed by a third location in Plaza Caparra.

In Puerto Rico, Starbucks is introducing its new single origin coffee, Puerto Rico, which will be offered exclusively in the local market.
