The first store is located in Moscow and two others are planned for the cities of Kaluga and Penza, Auchan-Russia head of external communications Maria Kurnosova confirmed.
The area of each hypermarket will not exceed 5-7,000 square meters.
According to analysts, the size of the format has been dictated by the shortage of retail space in the Russian regions. It is expected that the new chain will have a limited range of products in most categories with minimal personnel costs.
Zurab Shukakidze, director of corporate relations, Auchan-Russia, told just-food that the French company is planning to diversify its business in Russia. In particular, the company intends to focus on its Atac supermarkets. It currently operates about 50 Atac outlets in Moscow.
