Russia is considering lifting the ban on Chinese meat imports imposed in September 2004 after foot-and-mouth disease was discovered in China.
Russian experts are currently inspecting slaughterhouses and meat factories in China in order to compose a list of suppliers that meet Russian requirements, local reports suggest.
It is hoped that the issue will be resolved during Rosselkhoznadzor chief Sergei Dankvert’s visit to China scheduled to take place in March and April.
Before the ban, China was one of Russia’s largest suppliers of pork and other meats.
