The retailer intends to buy Carrefour’s two Russian hypermarkets after the French retail giant said earlier this month that it would quit the market.
Kesko operates under the K-Food banner in Russia. The company said that it also plans to expand its Russian chain organically.
“Kesko Food is ready to invest significant funds in this project”, said head of Kesko Russia Mikko Pasanen.
Auchan, X5 Retail Group and Lenta are also said to be potential buyers for Carrefour’s Russian operations.
