“We are seeing a situation where supplies of drinking milk are falling,” a spokesperson for the Union said.

The spokesperson confirmed that the Union is seeking political intervention to address the problem.

“New quality requirements mean that milk that would previously have been described as ‘drinking milk’ can  no longer be used for this purpose,” the spokesperson added.

In December last year, Russia introduced regulations that stipulated that ‘drinking milk’ could not contain milk powder, a move that has limited imports from countries such as Belarus.
