Russia has decided to limit beef imports from plants in Brazil after inspections found alleged breaches of regulations.
The Rosselkhoznadzor, or Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, said it would impose “temporary restrictions” on imports from ten plants – and retain limits imposed previously on six other sites.

The watchdog, in tandem with officials with Belarus and Kazakhstan, with which Russia has a customs union, inspected 18 meat processing plants in Brazil in June and July.
“A number of systematic violations and some violations at individual plants were detected, thus demonstrating the Brazilian services cannot provide sufficient control to ensure compliance with veterinary and sanitary regulations of the customs union and Russia,” the Rosselkhoznadzor said.
Reports said Brazil’s agriculture ministry has confirmed the affected plants are owned by companies including JBS and Minerva. Officials at the ministry, JBS had not returned a request for comment at the time of publication.
Minerva confirmed two of its plants were affected but added: “We inform that other units of the company in Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay are still qualified to export to Russia. Therefore, we adjusted the Russian demand to these units, to repeal the effect of this suspension.”
