Russia officially resumed imports of poultry meat from the US on Monday, but the country is reserving the right to reintroduce a ban immediately should the products prove to be substandard.

US poultry products were originally banned after the Russian veterinary service discovered contamination by the salmonella bacteria on 10 March.

At the time, Moscow claimed that US processors were using preparations prohibited in Russia, as well as breaching the documentation rules. Russian veterinarians visited the US and banned 14 companies on the list of US suppliers from exporting to Russia in the future.

The US has established and endorsed a new form of the veterinary certificate, which complies with Russian legislation, to accompany US ships with export cargoes.
