The Samara-based production facilities of Swiss food giant Nestlé in Russia have been expanded as the company aims to increase its shares of the Russian chocolate market from 23% to 24% during 2002.

Nestlé has opened a new line with a daily capacity of 16,000 tonnes of chocolate bars at its controlled ROSSIA candy factory, into which the company has invested R335m (US$) this year.

In total, the ROSSIA association now runs at a production capacity of 80,000 tonnes, despite losing several sweet and waffle production lines recently, and Nestlé plans to boost output to 100,000 tonnes long term.
