Dark chocolate, which is traditionally particularly popular in Russia, is being partly replaced by milk chocolate, the group also said. Consumers are showing greater interest in premium chocolate products.
In 2001, the capacity of the Russian chocolate market was estimated at about 400,000 tonnes.
Nestlé has invested US$200m into developing its retail and dealership network in Russia since 1995. The Swiss group owns a controlling stake in six Russian confectioners, located in five Russian regions.
