Russian supermarket chain Paterson expects a sales increase of 36% to US$340m in 2005, according to local reports.

Kamnews reported that sales jumps are partly a result of 22 new supermarket stores opened in Russia over the past year, meaning the company has 66 stores in the country altogether.

This includes 28 stores in Moscow and St Petersburg and 38 stores in other Russian cities.

Paterson signed its first franchise agreement at the end of May 2005, when distributing company Tubay launched a Paterson supermarket in the Moscow suburb Balashikha.

However, Paterson decided to sell only one more franchise license in a Russian city or region between September and November 2005, reported Kamnews.
