Russia’s Itar-Tass news agency reported that the Russian Veterinary Service has filed an official inquiry to better understand the 12 October recall of more than 27 million pounds of ready-to-eat turkey and chicken.

The products, distributed by Wampler Foods, were pulled off shelves in the United States due to listeria contamination fears. While Pilgrim’s does export to Russia and Eastern Europe, it is not thought that any of this contaminated lot had been destined for this region. The Russian news agency said officials wanted to check the safety of previous consignments and also to check US food safety procedures.
