Wimm-Bill-Dann, the Russian food and beverage group, enjoyed growth across all its business segments during the first quarter, the company said today (6 June).

The dairy products and baby food maker booked a 23.2% rise in operating income to US$63.4m for the first three months of the year. The rise in profits came on the back of a 34.8% jump in sales to $731.9m.


The company’s dairy business, which accounts for three-quarters of turnover, saw sales rise 34.1% thanks to price increases.


Baby food sales soared 67.1% to $59.7m as volumes rose and Wimm-Bill-Dann increased prices.


CEO Tony Maher said the company had enjoyed a “very solid start to 2008”, pointing out that, despite a rise in commodity costs, margins stood at 26.4%, compared to 26.9% in the fourth quarter of 2007.
