Wimm-Bill-Dann Foods has opened a large-scale dairy farm just outside St Petersburg.
The Russian dairy and nutrition firm has invested more than US$12m in the construction of the farm situated in the Volosovsk district, designed for 1,200 Holstein milking cows.
The farm, undertaken with the support of the Russian federal and regional governments as part of a national project for the development of the country’s agricultural sector, is expected to achieve productivity of 8,500 kilograms of high-quality milk per forage cow.
This is the fourth such major project for the company in developing Russia’s livestock industry.
Wimm-Bill-Dann is completing a mega-farm for 2,700 cattle in the Krasnodar region and is carrying out the reconstruction of two livestock farms in the Kuban.
